500 series in "lunch-box" : anyone?

Postby JJ4SDR » Wed Jul 10, 2024 10:01 pm

I ran 19" gear many years ago, and prior to that, outboard gear made by Julius, W2IHY. The customer service by Julius was always top-notch. Those experiments done, I transitioned over to DAW & VST plug-ins which I like to play around with a lot. Presently, contemplating going back into analog hardware and I would want to give 500 series processors a go, where 500 series processors sit in a "lunch-box". I like the form factor as XLR cables between the different units can be very short (I think  ).

I would love to hear from anyone who has used 500 series and whether these are more susceptible to picking up RF? The mic-pre I toyed with recently was a "desk-top" model and from what I can tell, it didn't pick up any RF but it developed other issues, after having sat idle for more than a year. The way the "lunch-box" rack has been designed most likely plays into how robust the hardware gear is when it comes to picking up RF, I am guessing ;) . Yup, guessing, as I really don't know and would value comments from those who have played with this form factor.

Awaiting feedback and experience sharing of using 500 series units from anyone having been there done that :)

Best!
