I do not own an Anan, but have friends who do.

One friend in particular is adamant about not needing an external coupler on his solid state PA when running Pure Signal. When he tried to do so, the signal contained high-amplitude RF Feedback, echoing, trashy audio.

They claim to now be running 400W, no coupler, and the audio is thin, with a very slight reverb, but I say that he is not running PS under those conditions.

Is it possible to screw-down the software so tightly that the PA's un-linearized signal is tolerable? 73, Kelly.

There are a number of apparent misconceptions here.

1. Any modern PA, solid or hollow state, is clearly "tolerable" in an unlinearized condition. Indeed, the only folks who can linearize their transmitters are those who are using Apache hardware with either the Thetis software or the older PowerSDR mRX software. If only linearized transmitters (radios, amps, radio+amp, etc.) sounded tolerable the vast majority of everyone would sound terrible. This is not to say that fully linearized systems don't sound better , but certainly everyone who isn't linearized sounds tolerable, assuming they are not doing stupid stuff like turning everything up to "11".

2. Your friend is not correct about not requiring an external coupler placed at the output of his amp in order to pick off the RF feedback signal at that point. If one runs PureSignal by using only the coupled path at the output of the ANAN hardware, then it's only linearized to that point. This will certainly help, but he's not getting full value for his PS dollar. The DUP (duplex receive) display will look great, but it is only showing the output of the coupler, and since the coupler is not at the output of the amp he can't know how well the amp is doing in terms of linearity.

3. None of the symptoms you describe would appear to have anything to do with PureSignal. It is much more likely that he has audio setup problems and/or station RFI issues.

Bottom line: there is not nearly enough information here to figure out what is going on, but it's not a PureSignal problem.
