Hello all,
i try to connect a ANAN 100 to the network. Item was used 4 weeks ago and was fine.
Now i put it back from the shelf but it did not connect to the network.
It was set to DHCP lst time and that worked fine.
Now nothing happens, the left green LED on the ANAN network connector lights permanent the one on the right side flushes barely.
(Front view)
HPSDR Programmer / Bootloader did not recover the ANAN.
Is it realy neccessary to dismantle the whole anan to get access to the BL-switch? (This ANAN has no hole on the bottom)

PS: Running Windows 10 and Protocol 2 Firmware on the ANAN
ANAN 100 no network activity
Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
Yes, you have to take the darn thing apart to get to the jumper (not switch) on the board that needs to be jumpered to get it to power up in Bootloader mode. If you do take it apart, now is the time to solder a couple of wires to a two pin header, slide that on the jumper, and bring that out to a switch in order to make it easier in the future.
Did your tries with Programmer say it was successful? Did it get through the erasing stage. If the answer to those questions is "No", then with luck you did not mess up the existing firmware. I'm guessing you did not, because if it can't connect to the network then neither Programmer nor Bootloader will work.
My guess is you have a bad Ethernet cable, connector or port somewhere. I'm assuming you have the ANAN and the PC connected to a switch and a router that is taking care of DHCP, right? If so, swap the cables between ANAN and PC, that will test the cable. Make sure the PC comes up at GigE speed on it's connection as it is possible for a cable with a broken wire to run at 100Mbit speed.

Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
update:
Tried two different routers with dhcp server, no success.
When i connect the anan to a switch only one LED (left) on the anan flushes, but the link / connection led (right) will do nothing.
Switch says connected with 100 MB, not 1GB.
So any ideas ot open the anan?

There are three reasons an ANAN will connect at 100 Mbit/s:
1. It's running Protocol 1 firmware. However you said it was running P2 before this.
2. It's in Bootloader mode. This seems unlikely.
3. The Ethernet cable is partially broken. All 8 conductors are required for GigE, but if one of them is broken and the right 4 conductors are OK it will still work in 100Mbit mode.
If you can confirm that the cable is good for GigE by using it with something else then it's time to open it up and use Bootloader to reload the firmware.
Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
Hello again,
i can confirm:
Cabel is okay
Protocol 2 is (maybe was) installed
So i will stop here and take some time to read the manual how to (re-) install prot 2 Firmware.
Thank you for you help so far

Study this topic carefully for how to use Bootloader:

Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
Hello again,
today i dismanteled the ANAN and solderd two wires on the Jumper J12.
I also installed a little switch and placed it behind the front panel.
So, to use the switch i just have to open the front panel screws.
Okay, that was part one.
The ANAN, direct connected with an ethernet cable to the pc, will not be discovered from HPSDR Bootloader 2.0.4.4.
The light on the button right of the Bootloader Software is green (Port open) but the device will not be found.
Tried another cable, added a switch but nothing helped.
Any idea?

So many ideas!

They are all covered in this topic: https://community.apache-labs.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2333
Did you follow the HPSDR Bootloader directions there precisely?
Classic problems include:
- Forgetting to install NPCAP first and forgetting to reboot after that.
- Forgetting to set network metrics.
- Forgetting which direction the switch should be in.
- Forgetting to power cycle the ANAN after moving the switch.
Do not use a switch, as noted in the directions.
It is possible that you have a hardware failure on the Hermes board.
Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
Hello all,
today i took some time to test again. A friend of mine gave me his ANAN 200D to test.
This item was found by HPSDBootloader, so my PC-Setup and Network seem to be fine.
Still no success to find my ANAN 100.
Maybe the Hermes has a problem?
How to proceed?-Is there someone in Germany here in the forum where i can send my ANAN for checking?

Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
Excellent idea to borrow the 200D. That has definitely eliminated everything outside of the ANAN-100.
There certainly could be a problem with the Hermes. One easy thing to check are that all the power supplies are working properly. The Hermes schematic can be found in the schematics section of this forum and you can use that as a guide.
Another problem might be that the bootloader part of the firmware somehow was corrupted. It's a bit of a pain to reload it. You have to obtain a JTAG programming pod (aka "byte blaster", aka "USB blaster", etc.), install the free version of the Quartus firmware development environment to run it, and attach to the JTAG header on the Hermes. A very old document describes this process:
It's also possible that the Ethernet connector has become damaged. A close visual inspection might reveal something.
After all of the above has been ruled out, then you are going to have to consider that there might be a failed Ethernet chip or failed FPGA.

Re: ANAN 100 no network activity
*update*
Tested several times: Seem to be a problem with the network connector on the hermes board.
When i press the network cable / connector downwards, everything is fine.
So i will check for bad solder points....
Thank you so much for you help
