This is something I encountered while editing the Autostart file in my G2 Ultra. The radio would not Autostart PiHPSDR on bootup. I read in another thread in this forum how to edit the Autostart file using Geany. I found that the last line in the file to actually start PiHPSDR was missing.
So, I set out to edit it and add the missing command line. When I tried to enter the @ character at the beginning of the command, I got the " character instead. I tried different keyboards thinking that the old Dell wired keyboard was messed up. Every single one I tried did the same thing. After doing some Google research I found a post on a website that said if one had a problem with incorrect keyboard mapping to go and open Preferences, then select Mouse and Keyboard settings to be sure that the keyboard was set for my country. In my case, I needed it to be set for the US. I found that mine was set for the UK. I changed it to US setting and now I can enter the commands properly.
Now, all I have to do is find the correct path to the version of PiHPSDR that starts from the desktop shortcut properly, instead of coming up with a version that starts like it's on a small screen with no settings at all!

Re: Problems editing Autostart
Run the version that comes up like it's on a a small screen and edit the settings. There is a "screen" menu where you can change screen size and choose a VFO bar layout.
When you say "with no settings at all" what were you looking for? Once you make changes they will be stored persistently.

Thanks Laurance. I ended up copying the path that the desktop shortcut uses and everything came up normally. The only thing I have not found is how to get it to select and run the radio without having to manually select it on the radio discovery screen.
My V1 controller would do that. So, I figure there's a setting to select the radio once it is found.
Just have to keep digging.

Re: Problems editing Autostart
Fixed the problem. The setting to Automatically start PiHPSDR and skip the Discovery screen is listed under the Protocol menu sub-menu. I had to reread ( several times) the latest PiHPSDR manual and finally everything clicked!
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!
Sorry for asking questions that I should have already found.

Re: Problems editing Autostart
Laurance, when I said with no settings at all, I meant that PiHPSDR would come up without the last band used and not have the settings I had been using when I launched it from the desktop shortcut the last time I used the radio.
I had tried using the command you posted in the easier update thread ,for radios with a front panel. ( in the Autostart file) But, every time I tried It, it came up wrong.
I finally went to the Properties settings for the desktop icon ( shortcut) to PiHPSDR and used that command to start PiHPSDR on bootup. It worked except for not having made the setting in Protocol in the PiHPSDR start screen.
In the command you had posted there was a bit missing.
It should have been:
@/home/pi/github/pihpsdr/pihpsdr .sh
In the command you posted you left off the space followed by .sh at the end of the command line.
Being a Linux newbie I didn't realize anything was missing. I had assumed that because my Autostart file didn't even have the command to Autostart PiHPSDR, that what you posted was the correct format. ( unless, being blind in one eye caused me to miss it..... which is always possible!)
Thank you for all your hard work on the G2 radios.
