Strange CW behaviour of the G2 - RF or relay hot-switching???

Postby Michael » Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:13 pm

Dear all,

I noticed a somewhat strange CW behaviour which occasionally appears but in particular when operating a contest at high speed for a longer time period. CW signal (and audio) is stumbling (dit and dahs get stuck). This happens when keying the radio via a paddle directly connected to the radio as well as when keying via a com port eg using N1MM+. After a few seconds the CW signal becomes clean again.

It sounds like RF but I assume it is rather related to a hot switching of a relay which cannot handle high speed CW for a longer time period. Has anybody experienced a similar issue? Any suggestions to solve this?

Cheers, Michael

no response so far.Nobodyelse experiencing same issues with CW?

Just experienced the same issue again during the OK1WC contest on 40m yesterday evening. After some 10-20min, CW is starting to 'stumble' (dits and dahs not clearly separated) like a relay which is hanging. Maybe it is only on 40m and related to RFI which I will check next week during the OK1WC contest but it could be also related to the time delay settings.

I am operating in semi-break in with 300ms, CW key-Up 30mS, KeyDown 15mS and already played around with the figures without any improvements.
Maybe it is related to the SPE 1k3 amp which I used yesterday in standbye in order to use the internal ATU and automatic antenna switch. Maybe the relays of the amp require a different relay setting in Thetis.

Is somebody using a similar setup and could you please share your delay settings. This would be helpful.
