how to do apt update & upgrade

As an APT UPDATE&UPGRADE seems to break the kernel, how are we supposed to make updates to the Linux OS?

Also there is still no official download site from Anan for the G2 raspberry pi image, luckily I found one by searching the internet.

I believe the problem with doing an OS update is related to the XDMA driver not being compatible. And keeping the Pi from communicating with the radio. There are instructions somewhere in this forum(s) explaining how to add the correct driver to a new version of the OS.
Personally, I have not found a compelling reason to update the OS enough to take the chance of breaking what is currently working well for me.
