Distorted audio on 15 M and then on 17M finaly FIXED

Distorted audio on 15 & 17 M from radiated RF inside my G2 Ultra near the 10 Mhz reference input finaly FIXED and hopefully for ever.
I wish that's the factory had fix this problem before selling it , not just to prevent drama by many user of G2 radio but especially to save alot of money by unnecessary high cost of ferrites to buy .
I wish Apache Labs had more transparence about this problem .
Thanks to Tony to have let me know :
«The fix to this issue is adding two jumpers to the 10Mhz Input circuitry on the Saturn card, the input as shipped is floating hence is picking up RF, please place a jumper on J22 and J24. Attached picture of the Saturn card with the jumpers marked.»

Interesting! Thank you for posting this!
Below is a snippet of the Saturn schematic. This is the exact same 10 MHz external input circuit that has existed since the Hermes.
Rather than placing the jumpers as described, I wonder if it would be enough to place a 50 Ohm terminator on the 10 MHz external input connector?

Hi Scott,
placing a cheap 50 Ohm terminator (1,50$) fixed it on my G2 black face, so no need to open it. Very nice, thanks a lot.

any word if Apache Labs are going to provide the Ferrite s for the G2 owners?

If Michel's post above works for everyone, then no ferrites are required. Similarly, if everyone has the same results as grolaf, then no need to open the G2 up, either. Simply add a cheap 50 Ohm terminator to the 10 MHz input connector.
For those who might be using an external source of 10 MHz (e.g. a GPSDO), are you experiencing any problems on 15 or 17M?

Hello all of you. I get my Anan G2 from repair in US today.
I have see that it was Doug who repair the 15m issue.
So I have now made a quick test on all ssb band except 6M
Where I am not sure howe to use.
No problem discoverd at all. Both 15 and 17 and all other bands
works. I do not know how he fixed the problem.
Very best from sm6usu Svante

It is not related to G2, but Following this thread , a friend and I recently installed 50 ohm terminators on the two SMA ports (10 MHz input connector and transverter port) of our Anan 7000DLE and a 7000MKII (we had previously installed terminators on all the unused antenna ports).
The result is a bit strange...
In both radios, installing the terminator on the transverter port produces a drop in both the noise level and the s-meter readings, which varies depending on the band:
40m - 5 to 6db drop in noise floor and signal level.
20m - 4db drop in noise floor and signal level.
15m - 3db drop in noise floor and signal level
10m - 2db drop in noise floor and signal level
Is there any explanation for this?

This is in reference to the XVTR input port (BNC), correct?
If so, looking at the 7000 schematic, it doesn't seem like it could possibly make any difference. If the radio is set up to use an ANT port for receive, both the XVTR and EXT inputs are completely disconnected from the receive path.

I'm talking about port #11

You know, you learn something new every day!
I had never realized this before because I don't have an transverters, but it would appear that on any Orion MKxx based model the subject XVTR port is switched between TX and RX, and when it is in an RX condition it is paralleled with the output of the preselector regardless of XVTR settings.
Thus putting a termination on that port is not a good idea!
Orion MKxx based models include all 7000 variants, the Andromeda, and the 8000. I'm guessing this also affects the G2.

I can confirm these findings. Placing a 50 ohm terminator on the XVTR port of my G2 has similar impacts as above. Can anyone confirm if placing the terminators on the Saturn board have similar characteristics?

Thanks for this info Scott.
I'm going to remove the terminator from the XVTR port!

I have a 50ohm terminator on my 10mhz. because the open port would pickup my station signal and I would sound like Darth Vader during high power according to my friend. But I'm going to check the signal drop. I reported that here on the forum. Took me almost 4 months to find the problem. But at least I have a better grounded station

.
Another thing it does is pull off frequency and you might drop on someone's conversation. Guy told me I was drifting over to his edge.

The problem is not with the 10MHz port, it is when a 50 Ohm connector is plugged into the XVRT port.

Yes, the signal does drop when the terminator is plugged into the xvtr port. on a 7000dle mkIII. And when removed the signal does goes up for me so far 15m 3dbm either way. On my radio the 10mhz behaved as I described in the msg above. But I never realized the drop in signal from the xvrt port. Mine mirrors the above chart.
So, if using a xvtr on that port I guess the drop or loading would be similar.

Received my G2 a few weeks ago. The first thing I did after updating my pi as pihpsdr wasn’t installed, was to open it up and clone the SD card. I also was going to remove the jumper. No jumper was installed, interesting.

My G2 Ultra had PiHPSDR installed. But, not setup to Autostart. I looked inside and both of the jumpers mentioned were already installed from the factory. I had to go and change the settings for the Kenwood as it came setup to use the UK keyboards. I switched to the US keyboard setting and I was able to edit things like the Autostart file easier. ( other than pilot error)
I haven't encountered any transmit problems so far.
