G2 strange power down behaviour

Hi all,
just a week ago I got my brand new G2 (without frontend). As for the manual, the power-down procedure should be to tap the power button once, then colour of the ring should change from pink to white. Then, I should wait for about 15 seconds and finally hold down the power botton for some seconds to make the internal computer power down entirely.
Now I experienced that on tapping the button to power down, the colour of the ring doesn't change but the entire G2 shuts down immediately.
Any idea if that this is correct? Could it even be harmful? I'm a bit of an old fashioned linux user who is still aware of the fact that particularly linux stations are not really happy about power cuts...
