Folks,
I wish I had a better command of the IT world, since it is far from my strength. I'm just an old trial-and-error guy. At any rate, I've seen the discussion of using TCP/IP to setup Winlink in Thetis, but I was lost from the beginning. I have tried repeatedly to make winlink work in Thetis, but always end up going to my Yaesu 857D to make it work. Is there someone kind enough in this forum to outline the step by step setup of Winlink in Thetis (in an Anan 7000 MkII). I and others I have talked to would greatly appreciate it.
Thanking you in advance,
Richard (JP) Pritchard,

Winlink Setup Instructions
Re: Winlink Setup Instructions
Not clear exactly what you are asking. Is it to use TCP/IP to do CAT control? if so WL doesnt support this like other programs can (e.g. another VARA mode program called VarAC will do this nicely).
Other than that WL is just like any other digital program with Thetis. Virtual Serial for CAT control and Virtual Audio for sound, works well and is pretty easy to setup.

Re: Winlink Setup Instructions
Richard,
Setting up Winlink to work with Thetis is actually little complex. Assuming you have Winlink and Thetis running on the same computer, you will need the following:
1. A virtual COM port connector, which is used for CAT control
2. Activating the Virtual Audio Connector (VAC), which moves audio between Thetis and Winlink
The first item requires some external software, such as com0com, although I am not sure their software works with Windows 11. I use a product called MW Virtual Serial. You'd have to read the instructions for the installation. You then need to set up Winlink CAT control to talk to Thetis over the virtual serial port pair. From a Winlink perspective Thetis looks like a Kenvood 2000. CAT control will then have to be enabled and set to the baud rate matching the one set in Winlink.
The VAC setup is a little easier. First, you need to enable VAC1, which will connect to the first (main) receiver. You then go to Winlink and set the audio in/out to the virtual audio devices, that should now be in the drop down box in audio settings. As I recall, the Thetis manual from Apache Lab's site gives a good description of how VAC works, but one specific point comes to mind: the sample rate must be set to 48000 (DVD quality) and of course the same in Winlink.
Next, you will need to adjust the audio levels. There are two setting to work on. The first is the VAC controls on the Thetis screen. Suggest starting with 0 dB. Next, you need to configure Windows audio settings. If you are using Vara as the access protocol, there is a very good tuning aid that will tell you how your signal is received at the remote Winlink station.
That's a very quick overview as it is a couple of years since I did this, but I hope that it at the very least gives you an idea of the work involved. Note that I don't read this site every day, so if you have further questions, I may take a few days to answer.
